This dissertation presents the computational modeling of the transport of a plume of contamination in rivers. The simulation of the behavior of the plumes becomes indispensable in the process of decision making, it is enough to mention the possibility of estimating the best places for the launch of household and industrial waste to protect aquatic ecosystems and enable the use of such data features. Thus this work presents a study on the advective and dispersive parameters is a of the transport of contaminant plumes in the Macae river. This region of great interest due to its local and regional importance. In order to provide to this work, a field work was carried out in the vicinity or fieldwork in the vicinity of the thermoelectric plants (UTE) Mario Lago by launching a discharge of sodium chloride (table salt - NaCl) in a place of interest. Comparisons were made between the experimental results with those obtained numerically using a mathematical model. Due to the geometry of the field of study, we chose a horizontal two-dimensional model. This model was solved using the finite volume method with fully implicit formulation, and made of use the algorithm of Thomas (TDMA) to solve the system of equations.
