Acesso e utilização da Atenção Primária à Saúde por travestis e mulheres transexuais no Rio de Janeiro

Primary Health Care, considered a priority gateway to the Brazilian health system, presents numerous problems about the access and use of services, being the target of countless works over the last decade. Searches by the LGBT population for health services end up being limited by situations of exclusion and discrimination that are present in health care, because imagining heterosexual people as the main population ends up interfering with the quality of the services that are offered. Therefore, the main objective of the study was to analyze the access and use of primary health care by the transvestite population and transgender women. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study with a sample of 139 transgender women and transvestite from the EVAS project. It was possible to observe that transgender women and transvestite under 35 years old, have a greater presence in the UBS 62.69% (p-value 0.042), in addition to those living in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, they also have a high quality of access 62.38 % (p-value 0.001). No statistically significant results were identified in the bivariate analysis, suggesting that sociodemographic characteristics do not seem to affect the access and use of health services. This present study points out that both, either the access or the use of primary health care for the transvestite population and transgender women in Rio de Janeiro is still far below expectations. In this sense, this study highlighted that the access to health services for this investigated population should be encouraged, because as in other countries, the transgender women population is often stigmatized, causing the distance between themselves from the health systems.
