Acesso de travestis e mulheres transexuais aos Serviços de Saúde: subsídios para um cuidado equânime

This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with access to health services by a group of transvestites and transgender women from Rio de Janeiro and the Metropolitan Region. Methodology: This is a secondary analysis using data from a set of participants previously recruited via Respondent Driven Sampling (RDS) conducted by the INI / FIOCRUZ TRANSCENDER research project team, resulting in a final sample of 345 transvestites and transgender women. From the database, univariate analyzes were performed, where prevalences and respective 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Bivariate analyzes were performed by calculating prevalence and prevalence ratios (PR) using regression models, considering the statistical significance when α values were less than 0.05 and for multiple analyzes Poisson regression was performed with robust variance. Results: The covariates “participation in social groups and movements” and “syphilis serology”, “HIV serology”, “physical violence by friend” and “physical violence by stranger” influenced the primary outcome of access to health services, while the covariates “need to move away from friends and family for being trans”, “physical violence by casual partner”, “sexual violence by stranger” and “self-rated health” influenced the secondary outcome that was access to specialized health services. Conclusion: It has been realized that body change is a determining factor in the lives of transvestites and trans women, whether in slower actions such as hormones or definitely as sexual reassignment and that health services at all levels should be prepared to welcome and care for this population, ensuring equitable care and free from prejudice.
