Resumo: The risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) are related to habits, behaviors, circumstances, or conditions that increase the risk of a person to develop CVD, including sedentarism, poor meal planning, smoking, diabetes, age and family history. Exercise is an alternative to reduce the chance of CVD, and whole-body vibration (WBV) exercise is a convenient strategy, as a modality of exercise, as studies have shown several benefits. Objective: The aim of this work is to investigate effects of WBV exercise on the management of CVR through of a systematic review. Searches for relevant studies were conducted through the PubMed, Embase, Science Direct, Scopus and PEDro databases to identify randomized clinical or crossover trials published in English on effects of WBV on CVR. Four reviewers independently examined titles and abstracts, according to the eligibility criteria. The main outcomes were the effects of WBV on different CVR factors. The publication that met the eligibility criteria were analyzed and included in the systematic review. Five studies were included in the systematic review with an average score of 6 for methodological quality (PEDro scale). Considering the risk of bias, one study showed a low risk of bias in almost all domains; three studies showed a low risk of bias in at least four domains, one of which had a high risk of bias in three domains; and one study showed a high risk of bias in four evaluated domains. The intervention protocols with the EVCI were heterogeneous, and the total population studied consisted of 130 individuals, being 92 women and 38 men. The results demonstrated benefits in the management of blood glucose, lipid profile, arterial stiffness, muscle strength, functional capacity, aortic blood pressure and wave reflection. In conclusion, the findings report that WBV exercise reduces several CVR factors, is well tolerated, without relevant side-effects and is associated with a good patients’ compliance, thus being highly indicated in the treatment of various diseases favouring CVD risk. The results of this review point to the need for more studies with greater methodological rigor and the standardization of a protocol for the topic addressed.

The results of this review point to the need for more studies with greater methodological rigor and the standardization of a protocol for the topic addressed. Submitted by Heloísa CB/A (helobdtd@gmail.com) on 2024-01-09T14:06:14Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Gloria Maria Lourenço Revelles - 2021 - Completa.pdf: 1193676 bytes, checksum: 467cb0ab3c16e73a6d9cace65b3b75e2 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2024-01-09T14:06:15Z (GMT).
