Resumo: The present study presents personal narratives of subjects with intellectual disability (ID). The general objective of the research was to analyze, through the methodology of Life History, the self-perception of youngsters and adults with intellectual disabilities in relation to themselves, their daily lives and insertion in the world of work. In order to meet the general objective, this study had two specific objectives: 1) to describe the vision of youngsters and adults with intellectual disabilities on their social daily life from their personal reports; 2) characterize the process of preparation for work and labor insertion of young people and adults with intellectual disabilities from their personal reports. The research had a qualitative approach based on the Life History method, allowing a greater approximation with the subjects of the study. The work was based on open and autobiographical interviews, which allowed to obtain information on the subjective essence of the 15 individuals interviewed. The results generated reflections on their living spaces, relationships and self-perception. The life stories presented in this study showed the individuals 'perception of themselves and, by analogy, others' view of themselves. People with intellectual disabilities subject to this research have also shown to be very dependent on their family members. The reports also indicated that the school is a space with broad meaning for these people, a place to make friends, have meetings, have fun, work, but in fact has not produced satisfactory results in relation to the academic development of these subjects. All the participants of the study have work experience, but, somehow, linked to a specialized institution. The speeches revealed that these people still do not have the autonomy to self-manage. The study pointed out that although social inclusion policies aimed at people with intellectual disabilities consider work as an important factor for the autonomy of these subjects, they do not guarantee the development of skills necessary for independent living

No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese_Amanda Carlou.pdf: 1878448 bytes, checksum: f99e27b4498a6b401c100f99d228fc9a (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-05T21:43:01Z (GMT).
