Resumo: This essay aims to analyse the contributions of Barão do Rio Branco to International Law. In the first chapter, the Barão do Rio Branco's legal and diplomatic path is analysed, before he assuming the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, in 1902. During this period, Paranhos Jr. acted in the delimitation of Brazilian borders, notably in matters of Palmas and Amapá, when the Brazilian limits doctrine was applied based on the effective occupation of the territory and the principle of uti possidetis. In the second chapter, the role of the Barão do Rio Branco as Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1902 and 1912 is studied. During this decade, Paranhos Jr. worked in the consolidation of the Brazilian borders with Peru, with Bolivia, with Colombia, with Great Britain and Uruguay, a fruitful moment for International Law in resolving disputes with neighbors. The third chapter presents an analytical nature, in which the contribution of the Barão do Rio Branco to General International Law is addressed, as well as to the formation of international and regional society at the time

Primeiramente, analisa-se o percurso jurídico-diplomático do Barão do Rio Branco, antes de assumir o cargo de Ministro das Relações Exteriores, em 1902. Nesse período, Paranhos Jr. atuou na delimitação das fronteiras brasileiras, notadamente nas questões de Palmas e do Amapá, momento no qual aplicou-se a doutrina de limites brasileira, baseada na ocupação efetiva do território e no princípio do uti possidetis. Posteriormente, estuda-se a atuação do Barão do Rio Branco como Ministro das Relações Exteriores entre 1902 e 1912. Durante esse decênio, Paranhos Jr. atuou na consolidação das fronteiras brasileiras com o Peru, com a Bolívia, com a Colômbia, com a Grã-Bretanha e com o Uruguai, momento fecundo para o Direito Internacional na resolução das contendas com os vizinhos.
