Resumo: | In view of the complexity and emergence of the collaborative phenomenon and the rise of a platform culture, this thesis investigates how travel and collaborative practices can be constituted as inducing agents for the exercise of asserting political identities and positions, based on activities that take place on the digital platforms on collaborative hosting networks for women. The formation of support networks is one of the many movements by which feminism has been strengthening, among various practices, such as travel. Interlocutions such as those that occur in home hosting sharing groups. In online interactions, they ask for and offer a place to sleep. A sofa where bonds and social relationships are sewn together. The global and computerized flows concerning contemporary society enable mobility in different areas and dimensions. Nevertheless, they highlight inequalities and conflicts that may be related to people's sexual orientation, gender and/or ethnicity, implying advantages or disadvantages in this context. Dominant power logic determines who, when, where and how can move. In the case of women who share accommodation, this embracement includes identification relations and activism through reciprocity, that face some difficulties encountered in the search for travel, such as spending on accommodation and fears of establishing this type of interaction with men. Plural and politicized groups are formed, in which ethnic-racial conditions also give rise to divergences. These imbrications take place in a scenario of increasing diversity of tourist practices associated with the current informational capitalism. The collaborative ideal, therefore, advocates sharing and peer-to-peer relationships, based on more decentralized network structures and is sought, mainly, by those who prioritize sharing and social interactions. Among the initiatives aimed at collaborative hosting, the success of platforms such as Couchsurfing and Airbnb have been linked to problems, causing a departure from the inclusive ideal that the term collaborative initially supposes, in view of reported cases of ethnic, gender or sexual orientation discrimination. The investigation is based on a bibliographic research, especially on gender relations, collaborative economics, mediatization and digital networks. A parallel is made with Mauss' theory of gift (2015), to reflect on contemporary exchange relations and is based on the idea of Platform Society, developed by Van Dick, Poell and De Waal (2018) to analyze the modulations of technologies in tourist practices. It also uses empirical work involving an ethnography in the groups Couchsurfing das Pretas, Couchsurfing das Minas e Trans #ELENÃO and Couchsurfing das Minas na Europa, all hosted on the social media Facebook. It aims to understand the platforms uses, their processes, interactions and appropriations based on an active participation in these virtual environments, combined with conducting in-depth interviews with thirteen interlocutors and the “couchsurfing experience” by the author. The research, therefore, seeks to understand the dynamics existing in these collaborative relationships between women, mediated by digital platforms. But it also focuses on broader reflections with social movements around the collaborative economy, tourism and media. |

But it also focuses on broader reflections with social movements around the collaborative economy, tourism and media. Submitted by Bianca CEH/A (bianca.silveira@uerj.br) on 2021-09-24T21:01:29Z No. of bitstreams: 2 Tese -Thaís Costa - 2021 - Completa.pdf: 2934098 bytes, checksum: f1f291438bd4b6b9682e6a9e21e732d7 (MD5) license_rdf: 0 bytes, checksum: d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-09-24T21:01:29Z (GMT). In view of the complexity and emergence of the collaborative phenomenon and the rise of a platform culture, this thesis investigates how travel and collaborative practices can be constituted as inducing agents for the exercise of asserting political identities and positions, based on activities that take place on the digital platforms on collaborative hosting networks for women. |
