Resumo: The main aim of the present dissertation is to investigate the notion of practices of parrhesia, as the practice of free speech linked to the issue of the care of the self in Michel Foucault’s works. The theme will be treated in the first part, from restoring the historical origins of the precepts of the know-thyself (gnôthiseautón) and the care of the self (epiméleiaheautoû), as developed by Foucault, as well as the notion of conversion, through the issue of the relations between the forms of subjectivity and the problematization of the truth. The second part focuses on the certainty that the analysis of the concept of practice of parrhesia is Foucault’s fundamental bet on considering new forms of subjectivity today. The purpose is, therefore, to explain Foucault's notion of parrhesia to show that when Foucault elaborates the history of relations between the subject and truth, his claim is to show the existence of possible historical alternatives to the existing modes of subjectivity in modern Western societies. For that, it will be analyzed, as developed by Foucault, the notions of practice, care of the self, conversion, parrhesia, modes of subjectivity, subject and truth.

Esse tema será abordado, na primeira parte, a partir da reconstituição das origens históricas dos preceitos do conhece-te a ti mesmo (gnôthiseautón) e do cuidado de si (epiméleiaheautoû), conforme desenvolvida por Foucault e, também, da noção de conversão, por meio da questão da relação entre as formas de subjetividade e a problematização da verdade. Na segunda parte, centrada na certeza de que a análise da noção de prática de parrhesia é a aposta fundamental no pensamento foucaultiano para pensar novas formas de subjetivação na atualidade. Trata-se, portanto, de explicitar a noção foucaultiana de parrhesia a fim de mostrar que quando Foucault elabora a história das relações entre o sujeito e a verdade, sua pretensão é a de evidenciar a existência de alternativas históricas possíveis aos modos de subjetivação vigentes nas sociedades ocidentais modernas.
