The act of taking a picture is not just about clicking the camera. It is full of meanings, expressions and intentions. A person who thinks about taking a picture already carries a load of information and experiences that might affect the way to see and frame what they intend to register. The present work, made with a research group that worked in a state school in the slums of Maré, has attempted to follow the formation of the view of the students to the reality, with the intention of transforming them through photography. We developed a research called “Horizon Project” and, based on the concept of cultural capital from philosopher Pierre Bourdieu, we offered a series of distinguished cultural experience to those young students. With a camera or a cell phone in hand and a list of proposed themes, they registered the moments lived in the project and their daily reality.The exposition to a great number of cultural events, the work with photography and the discussions on the group made them enhance their cultural background. The dissertation on screen describes all the steps of the process.
