Resumo: | World production is concentrated in the energy sources derived from fossil fuels, whose reserves have been exhausted over the years. In photosynthesis, plants utilize sunlight as an energy source and water molecule as the electron donor to convert carbon dioxide into carbohydrates. During this process, which occurs in photosystem II, water is cleaved, leading to the formation of one molecule of oxygen, four protons and four electrons. The present work proposes the study of manganese oxides (Mn2O3 and MnO2) functionalized with commercial organic ligands (picolinic acid, ethylenediamine and pyridine) that act as catalysts in water oxidation process the manganese cluster in the photosystem II. The results obtained for chemistry water oxidation using cerium ammonium nitrate as oxidant showed that the incorporation of ligands to MnO2, independent of the studied crystallographic phase, improves its catalytic activity, due to the reduction of some Mn4+ sites promoted by the ligand, thus allowing the existence of mixed valence Mn4+/Mn3+, an essential condition for water oxidation reaction catalysis. For commercial Mn2O3 the reverse behavior was observed, since the reduction of the Mn3+ sites leads to species with no oxidizing activity (Mn2+). Furthermore, the TG/DTG curves allowed to calculate the amount of incorporated ligand as well as to verify the effect that the reduction of Mn4+ and Mn3+ sites causes in the thermal transformation temperature of the oxides |

Furthermore, the TG/DTG curves allowed to calculate the amount of incorporated ligand as well as to verify the effect that the reduction of Mn4+ and Mn3+ sites causes in the thermal transformation temperature of the oxidesA produção mundial de energia está concentrada nas fontes oriundas de combustíveis fósseis, cujas reservas tem se esgotado ao longo dos anos. No. of bitstreams: 1 Fernando Lucas Goncalves Silva.pdf: 4723703 bytes, checksum: bef8d581838aa1d67b9f4b9ba5af343b (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-07T19:04:11Z (GMT).
