Porque ginecologia é pra mulher né?!: a experiência de homens trans no atendimento ginecológico

Gynecology was conceived in the 19th century as a science of women, serving as a justification - supported by nature - for the difference between men and women who founded and legitimized predetermined social roles. A science that is born marked by gender binarism is now confronted with a new audience: trans men. The present work aims to understand the experience of: trans men and other trans-masculines in gynecological care. For this, semi-structured interviews were carried out with the purpose of understanding their experiences and perceptions about this field of medicine. This involved: access and frequency of gynecological consultations; the behavior of doctors; possible violence and discrimination suffered during care; possible problems caused by the lack of medical service; strategies taken to deal with difficulties in attendance and / or their absence and the reasons for acceptance or refusal to seek gynecology. The analysis of the reports revealed a profound unpreparedness of doctors in meeting the demands of trans men with a lack of knowledge of trans identity, which had a direct impact on the conduct and protocols followed; the refusal to prescribe certain treatments, in addition to episodes of discrimination and disrespect to the social name. In many cases, the practice of health care was cisheteronormative, that is, based on the assumption that all those assisted are cisgender and heterosexual. This results in scenes of discrimination and the removal of transgender people from institutional care spaces. The experience of trans men with gynecology involves a persistent explanation of their gender identity, sexuality and, even, about hormonization and its adverse effects. The clash between gynecology and transmasculinity promotes questioning boundaries between sex and gender and, ultimately, the binomial nature x culture. In addition, this meeting opens paths and possibilities for a restructuring of gynecology, including the demands and desires of trans men, and medicine itself, which may be less cisheteronormative.
