The love theme is tirelessly portrayed in the arts in general, such as literature, music, painting and plastic arts, for example. This is not only because it is something that anyone experiences throughout their life, but also because it is a primary need of human beings, especially those who were born and raised in a culture with Greco-Roman influence. Thus, the present work intends to analyze the social and sentimental interactions existing in the novel In your hands, by Portuguese author Inês Pedrosa, between the character called Jennifer and the others that, in some way, she becomes emotionally involved with. Thus, we aim to affirm that the need to love and, mainly, the fear of loneliness are intrinsic characteristics of the Western individual.This analysis will be developed based on the narration of the character in In Your Hands, added to the theoretical comments found, mainly, in the books The Art of Love, by Erich Fromm and Love in Rome, by Pierre Grimal. Furthermore, we will explore the concept of Memory and the way in which the novel's author treats it as a personification, not only of the feelings of the figures that appear in the narrative's plot, but also the social role that the memories of the characters in In your hands play. on the reader. All of this with the aim of answering questions such as: “Why does Jenny still strive to maintain her marriage with António, even though she knows it is a sham?” or “What is the extremely important role of your diary in the search for reciprocity?” Finally, we will discuss social and loving interactions as a primary need for the individual at any time in Hesperian society
