This research will try to present the importance of the study alternative to the traditional approaches of security and IR for the postcolonial states. It is worth noting that traditional approaches to IR and conventional security studies present an intersection between power and knowledge. This imbrication, according to Barkawi and Laffey (2006), is a product of Western power. In addition, traditional security studies are centered on the European experience and are considered inadequate to study the conflicts in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo investigated in this work. In this way, once conventional security studies support and reproduce Eurocentrism, they would present a distorted analysis (BARKAWI; LAFFEY, 2006) of the conflicts in eastern Congolese. Thus, for the proposed research, the Critical Security Studies (CSS) will be used as an analysis tool. The choice for such a lens of study has also occurred because it believes that it aligns itself with the critical perspectives - post-colonialism and post-structuralism. This is because in the postcolonial regions there is the performance of various non-state actors in security issues as well as conflicts in which there is the intermingling of both domestic and international security problems, stressing state representation. In addition, the methodology adopted will be historical representation (DUNN, 2008) and practice tracing (POULIOT, 2015). Dunn (2008) seeks to present as representations, temporal and spatial, construct realities and knowledge. The practice tracing, proposed by Pouliot (2015), seeks the study of causality from specific events, I believe there are similarities between them.
