Resumo: This essay is the result of the research that purposed the analysis of the notions of secularism and the meaning assigned to religious education that was mentioned in the parliamentarians speech in the debates occurred in Alerj (Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro) In the period from January 1989 to December 2015 about the religious education in public schools. There is also content analysis of the speechs pronounced Pronounced by civil and religious associations who attended the public hearing convened by the STF (Federal Court of Justice) due to ADI (Direct action of unconstitutionality) proposed by the PGR (Attorney general of the republic. The goal is to analyze the speechs of those social agents in the plenary sessions to dialogue with the ethnographic material available about the religious education, aiming the understanding which conceptions are linked to secularism and also the meaning and expectations nurtured for the religious education.

Analiso também o conteúdo das falas pronunciadas pelas agremiações civis e religiosas que participaram da audiência pública convocada pelo STF em decorrência da Ação Direta de Inconstitucionalidade proposta pela Procuradoria Geral da República.
