Programa Polo Joalheiro do Pará: os embates no campo do design de joias

The present research investigates the jeweler universe of Programa de Desenvolvimento do Setor de Gemas e Metais Preciosos do Estado do Pará – Programa Polo Joalheiro, located in the Espaço São José Liberto, in the city of Belém (PA), having the Organização Social (O.S.) Instituto de Gemas e Joias da Amazônia (IGAMA) as the current manager. Considering the disputes and clashes between designers, goldsmith, cutters and managers of the Program aiming to identify how the field values were constructed, the rules and terms applied by managers in defining what is jewel and which agents that are responsible for its creation within in the process of institutionalizing the local jeweler, as well as identifying and pointing out how the actions of the various agents have been used in an attempt to break with these rules or to maintain them. Noticing also, as a catalyst for existing actions, the inclusion of the Segmento Produtos de Moda in 2011, which divides the sector's demands for receiving and evaluating products with jewelry. As a methodological basis for research, the association between bibliographic research, participant observation within the product receiving and evaluation sector, interviews with agents and extensive documentary research on primary sources of the Programa Polo Joalheiro were used, among them, the institutional catalogs, catalogs of jewelry collections and normative documents of internal procedures. For the description and analysis of this reality, it was appropriated as a theoretical-methodological tool of the network of theories of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, using its main concepts, namely, Field, Agents, Habitus and Capital. Finally, with the process of analysis of the interviews and the documents based on the concepts listed above, the research was concluded with the reflection about the circumstances that provoke the clashes within the Pará jeweler field.
