The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of creating and maintaining fanfics written in Portuguese of the Harry Potter saga and identify reasons why readers users and contributors opt, or prefer, certain fics over others. The paper aggregates, in his body, an overview about the saga, since its author, through his characters and plot, to a contextualization of the successful relationship of these Works with the practice of publications and maintenance of fanfictions being addressed and recorded relevant issues on this activity. The main theoretical understandings related to the universe of fics comes up, such as the preservation of traditional over the new (follow the canon), as well as over the presence of some communication and textual patetrns (frequency and quality in the text), as factors of relevance to the popularity of a story. Finally, are analyzed data from questionnaires sent to the most significant part of the sample chosen, in order to investigate which factors are crucial for a fanfiction to become popular, since this activity is embedded in a technological space, in which innovation is impellent
