Resumo: Starting from that tells the cultural history of the formation of cities, this paper presents a reflection on what is theoretically the margins, what seems unnoticed, hidden: the suburb, often confused with the notion of periphery, but that especially in Rio de Janeiro, has a particular concept. The peculiar way (and almost exclusively) of Rio de Janeiro suburb will illustrate issues relating to daily life, to socialities and imaginary city, guiding the field of culture and communication in the current scenario. Mediated food, music, cultural and religious rites of Madureira neighborhood, this research will step into the world of Fair Yabás - a music and Rio black gastronomy event - to investigate the role of food from the traditions, customs and "modes do "that permeate the Rio culture. Starting from an exploratory ethnography, using participant observation, we question the edibility settings appropriate to the street as party territory and contribute to memory and renewal of manifestations of Brazilian popular culture

O modo peculiar (e quase exclusivo) do subúrbio carioca irá ilustrar questões relativas ao cotidiano, às socialidades e aos imaginários da cidade, norteando o campo da cultura e da comunicação no cenário atual. Mediados pela comida, música, ritos culturais e religiosos do bairro de Madureira, esta pesquisa adentrará o universo da Feira das Yabás um evento de música e gastronomia negra carioca - para investigar as representações da comida a partir das tradições, usos e modos de fazer que permeiam a cultura carioca.
