With a wide spread of technologies of information and communication, blogs, vlogs and social media had settled spaces of formation and exhibition of subjectivity. In the documentary film, this movement of self-representation begins in the 1960s and, from the 2000s onwards, it intensifies and consolidates with many fictional, documentary and experimental works. This trend reveals a large variety of methodologies and language inventions that point to relationships with other knowledge and practices. The movies The Missing Picture (2014, Rithy Panh), This is not a film (2011, Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb) and Elena (2013, Petra Costa) reveal an issue that seems to unite them: in the face of a socio-cultural context permeated by a certain greater amount of images, and a excess in the images, as these filmmakers depart from 'lack of self and images' to create artistic and explicit works as gaps of this negation within from them? In these three films, the images are not configured as a point of arrival, but also a starting point: more than artistic works that resulted from a creative process, these documentaries are such as tensioned triggers which, triggered, provoke disharmony. The analysis of these works, in this project, will function as a starting point to erase possible dialogues between an instance of representation of the life of the documentarist and the potentialities and limitations of representation through image
