Condutas sexuais de jovens universitários e o conhecimento em relação às Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis

This study aimed to analyze the knowledge about the transmission s ways of sexually transmitted infections (STI) and its influence on sexual behavior of young college students. As specific objetive sougth to: identify the knowledge about the ways of transmission of sexually transmitted infections, knowing the sexual behaviors and discuss the influence of knowledge about the ways of transmission of sexually transmitted infections in sexual behavior of young university students. This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, integrated into the project "Sexuality and vulnerability of young people in times of Sexually Transmitted Infections." The research s scenario was a private university in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The participants were young university students. The inclusion criteria were: being in the age group 18-29 years old and be with active registration in the respective institution. The exclusion criterion was incomplete return of data collection instrument, meaning, without filling up one or more pages of the questionnaire. For the selection of the participants was adopted stratified sample uniform by gender, totalizing 384 male students and 384 female students. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire containing 60 questions. The variables used were those related to social, sexual behaviors and knowledge in relation to the STI. The data were organized in a spreadsheet using Excel 2003 software and analyzes were performed using software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Were applied the chi-squared tests and analysis of variance (ANOVA) for the association of variables. The results show that the young university students had insufficient knowledge in relation to the forms of transmission of STI, as for the association with social aspects, the female students, married or living together, who has had children and were coursing the health area had more knowledge, being that statistically significant (p = <0.05). In relation to sexual conducts, there was no evidence in the association between safe sexual behavior and knowledge about the ways of STI s transmission. It concludes that it is necessary to improve the level of knowledge of college students about the modes of transmission of STIs, as the results presented in this study indicate that knowledge of the investigated young people was below the expected, which did not allow the association of this variable with the sexual behavior of young people.
