As práticas sexuais de jovens universitários frente às Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis: uma contribuição para a enfermagem

This research aimed to analyze the sexual practices and behavior of university students of a private institution, front of the Sexually Transmitted Infections. As specific objectives, it sought to describe the sexual practices of young university students of a private educational institution; to describe the behavior of university students of a private institution, in relation to sexually transmitted infections and to discuss the actions of health professionals focused on health education, self-care and prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections. It is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, integrated to the project Sexuality and vulnerability of young people in times of Sexually Transmitted Infections . The field of research was a private university in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Study participants were university students aged 18-29 years. For the selection of the participants it was adopted stratified sample uniform by gender, for a total of 768 students, with 384 male students and 384 female ones. A questionnaire with 60 questions was used to obtain information from university students. In this study, the variables related to social aspects, sexual practices and health care practices were selected, considering the occurrence of STI. The data were organized in a spreadsheet through the Excel 2003 software and the analysis was carried out with the help of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Pearson's chi-square test was used to verify the association between dichotomous variables, with a significance level of 95%. The results show that young individuals, mostly aged between 18 and 23 years, they are single, with heterosexual orientation. Among the college students, 654 were sexually active, 17.33% reported condom use in all sexual relations, and the male condom was adopted by both sexes. Regarding health care, 57.81% sought care in the last 12 months, with a majority of women, 29.55% having already been tested for HIV, the Pap smear was performed for more than half of the women and there was registration of IST among 4.82% of young people. It is concluded that the young people adopt a risk behavior by not using the condom in all the sexual relations, in a continuous way, being exposed to the IST. Male students exhibit less self-care practices and preservation of their sexual health compared to female students. The practices of health education and self-care stimulation with this group are relevant. Thus, it would be opportune for professionals, with the adoption of participative methodologies, to seek to stimulate reflection and self-care practices among university students for the prevention of health problems and the occurrence of STIs.
