This dissertation interrogates two axes of the work of Louis Althusser: epistemology and its conception of society. Instead of slicing off his writings and electing a point of greatest significance for the critical examination, I try to reconstruct a possible route for each axle leading it to a bifurcation point. In the case of epistemology, I extend the reflection to the point where the epistemological guarantees that have been criticized threatens to be reintroduced into the argument and suggest a possible exit by connecting the idea of cutting with the assumption of congenital incompleteness of scientific thought on the one hand, and on the other, referring the construction to the political sphere. Regarding your conception of society, I emphasize his remark against the structuralism and against a particular conception of totality. How I did with the first axis, I extend his argument to a point where two options appear: the circularity of reiteration of what were once criticized or the immanent collapse of the idea of structure, when it opens the possibility of another formulation. This reconstruction demand then explore from an internal point of view the tensions that inhabited its theoretical formulation and some possible paths open to further research.
