Para além do lulismo: o fazer-se do petismo na política brasileira

The Workers Party (Partido dos Trabalhadores, PT) is the most important political party in Brazil in the present time. It is impossible to reflect on the Brazilian democratic experiment in any dimension without crossing over with PT. The party is a highly diverse organization, with multiple political meanings in its making, presenting a non-linear history, marked by contradictions and choices to be understood. The bibliography written on the subject always brings the open and polysemic character of PT, although it rarely dedicates itself to analyzing such plurality. Since 2003 there s one more major element to complexify PT s analysis, that is, the fact that it has reached the presidency through the most popular political leader in the country, Lula. The experience in the administration was as rich as contradictory and has left us with a political concept/phenomenon, lulismo, by wich, frequently, the party is undermined. This study s hypothesis consists in affirming that without understanding the way by wich the party has developed itself it is impossible to fully comprehend the Lulismo. This thesis also claims that to understand PT we must look for its many possibilities, exploring them, articulating them and thus putting in question the canonic models for interpreting political parties. It is in that sense that we introduce the concept of petismo, wich aims to account PT s historical specificity. In our understanding, it is, in reality, a party-movement constituted by a collective subject that conquers the right to representation and that has many configurations. The first chapter is about the process that has brought to life this collective subject, a process that is only completed with the right to representation, moment in wich the petismo rises and the party-movement is founded. The second reconstructs the trajectory of petismo in its first decade, in wich it fought to reorganize the state and the economy. The third chapter is about petismo in the defeat, when it needs to reorganize itself in order to survive face the state and the economy, making choices that will lead to lulismo, subject of the final chapter.
