Analyze the trip of Rocha Pombo in the northern states of Brazil as a strategy of legitimation in the intellectual field is the horizon of the present work. It is argued that the crossing held the northern states of the country was an exceptional moment in the career of the traveler, influencing the revision of your writing historiographical, in the struggle for legitimacy as an author of history books in the intellectual field. After the journey, the intellectual of Paraná brought symbolic and cultural role for the writing of his books of historical, establishing itself as the authority to speak on subjects related to history. The trip changed the way the intellectual of Parana went on to write their history books, especially as regards the place of northern states of Brazil, as well as in history books of the region. The tour through different states was interpreted as an action that exposed the networks of sociability, support, prestige, built by the intellectual in search of projection, visibility and distinction against competitors of the field. If many were the travelers who visited Brazil, it is argued that one of the oddities of the experience of traveling Rocha Pombo was motivation in relation to expansion of the consumer market and reader of the author, because their books were published by different publishers.The tour of an author helps to understand the tensions and competition around the publishing market in the period, with special attention to school . The crossing performed by Rocha Pombo over Brazil gives insight into the existence of different experiences of education in the country, showing the movement of circulation textbooks and different practices and conceptions of education in the period, beyond the sphere of capital considered the showcase of progress and modernity. The analysis of trip circumscribes Rocha Pombo in the collective movement of different subjects and debates about the need for education projects for the "folk" in the constitution of a country that was intended to be large, finding that diversity the constitution as a folk and nation.
