Resumo: | The object of this research is the recognition and appreciation of university teaching work, as well as the situations of pleasure and suffering resulting from the work experience. The objectives were: I) to identify the situations generating pleasure and / or suffering in the teaching work; II) to analyze the teachers' perception about the recognition and appreciation of their work activity; III) to discuss the repercussions of teaching work on the health-disease process of this professional group; and IV) to list the limiting factors and the potential situations for the recognition of university teaching work. The assumption was that although all professionals are university health professions and work in very similar contexts, perceptions of recognition and valorization of work are heterogeneous, considering the social, historical and political context of the professions and the contemporary context of the the world of work and its effects under such professions. Based on this assumption, the following thesis was listed: it is considered that medical and dental professionals present a better perception about the recognition and appreciation of university teaching work. These professions, unlike Biology, Nursing and Nutrition, are the professions of an autonomous nature, which hold mastery over their work process in the context of health and are older careers with traditions and consolidated status in society. Methodology: this is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research. The study scenario was the Biomedical Center of a public university in the State of Rio de Janeiro. It is noteworthy that the ethical aspects were respected and the research was registered in the Brazil Platform and approved by the Research Ethics Committee under number 2,842,807. The participants were 30 university professors, being 06 of each course of the Biomedical Center, namely: Biology, Nursing, Medicine, Nutrition and Dentistry. Data collection took place from August to October 2018 through the semi-structured interview. The data were examined through the thematic analysis of content, which gave rise to four empirical categories: "Dialectics of the world of work: pleasure and suffering in the work practice of university professors; Conceptions of university teachers about the recognition and appreciation of work; Dynamicity and complexity of the world of work and the health implications of university teachers; and Facilities and adversities in daily work: dilemmas and challenges. In relation to the thesis that considered that the professionals of Medicine and Dentistry would present a better perception about the recognition and the valorization of university teaching work there were differences. -Pois- unlike the imagined, some of the medical professors had a perception of the medical professional's deprestige and devaluation over the years. In addition, these teachers and those of Biology and part of the Nursing teachers were not considered recognized and valued by society. On the other hand, Nutrition professors referred to the increase in recognition and appreciation of the profession over the years. |

Submitted by Boris Flegr (boris@uerj.br) on 2021-01-06T14:26:45Z No. of bitstreams: 1 TESE_PARCIAL_ARIANE _DA_SILVA_PIRES.pdf: 534154 bytes, checksum: c60cf52033368ce4982da261f38ed5bc (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-01-06T14:26:45Z (GMT).
