Resumo: The present work sought to analyze the growing increase of police violence in the city of São Gonçalo - RJ. Even with the constitutional guarantees that have legally established the human rights framework in Brazil, police violence continues to be one of the great obstacles to the full exercise of citizenship. By reproducing the old practices of the past, the brazilian police have failed to fulfill the role of institution guaranteeing security and citizens' rights, becoming one of the great violators of Human Rights. Therefore, in order to better understand the origins and consequences of this violence for the citizen of Gonçalense, and recognizing the role of school as a privileged locus for the construction of knowledge, we have prepared a notebook of history workshops, aimed at educating in human rights, where we propose a reflection on the ideological and political path of creation of the Brazilian police apparatus and the need to fight for the guarantee of human rights.

Mesmo com as garantias constitucionais que instituíram de maneira legal os marcos dos Direitos Humanos no Brasil, a violência policial continua sendo um dos grandes entraves ao pleno exercício da cidadania. Ao reproduzir as velhas práticas do passado, a polícia brasileira tem deixado de cumprir o papel de instituição garantidora da segurança e dos direitos dos cidadãos, tornando-se uma das grandes violadoras dos direitos humanos.
