Resumo: To understand better the leadership as a group phenomenon, it was necessary to study the professional s perceptions that exercise it, besides, as demand of the position that they occupy. In that sense, it was looked to recognize the particularities of behaviors in daily situations of the managerial work together yours led. Shimmering the male nurses own nuances that exercise management, they were delimited as problems: which is the male nurse leader's profile of taking care in nursing? Which are the dominant styles and under dominant of the male nurse leadership in the exercise of activities of general coordination of services, leadership of operational units and nursing supervision, your second self-perception? To answer those subjects, the following objectives were formulated: to delineate the male nurse leader's profile, following individual and professionals characteristics; to identify the leadership style adopted by the male nurses, according to the dimensions of the leader's behavior, in your daily of work, in the institution of health. It was used as referential mark the Grid theory managerial of Blake and Mouton. Data s production was accomplished from June to July of 2007, in public, academical hospital general, of great load, located in the municipal district of Rio de Janeiro. It was chosen the descriptive method, quantitative and traverse and the self-report technique, being applied a questionnaire to 66 male nurses that act in the leadership functions delimited in that research. The variables of the study of the profile refer to the individual characteristics and the male nurse leader's professionals, while the one of leadership link to the five pure styles, in the theoretical conceptions of dominant and of under dominant, delimited in the investigation, from the dimensions of the leadership behavior, extolled by the authors. The analysis of data resulted for simple descriptive statistics. Being delineated the male nurse leader's profile, it was verified most of the feminine sex (87,88%), age group between 44 and 48 years (25,76%), stable union (56,06%), with a son (33,33%). Most of the male nurses has two public entails (89,39%) and time of formed from 21 to 25 years (39,39%). There is predominance of theoretical preparation for the leadership (80,30%), masters degree course lato sensu (36,36%) and stricto sensu (36,06%). About Grid style, it was identified that the dimensions of leadership behavior defined alternative styles to deal with complex situations. The male nurse leader adopts a dominant style, however, when he does not obtain success, it falls back upon the style under dominant. The results point the predominance of the style 5,5, followed for 9,9, 1,9, 9,1 and 1,1, differently of the found in the literature revision regarding the nursing leadership in the period from 1990 to 2006. It can be concluded that the inclusion of variables in the study, contemplating problematized aspects of the daily of work in group, associated to the dimensions of leadership, it favored a more closed perception of the male nurse leader's real style. Facing the obtained results, it is believed there to be need of managerial qualification seeking to prepare the male nurses to take offices that demand the integration of the leadership functions and leadership.

Nesse sentido, buscou-se reconhecer as particularidades de seus comportamentos em situações do cotidiano do trabalho gerencial junto aos seus liderados. Vislumbrando as nuanças próprias dos enfermeiros que exercem função de gerência, delimitaram-se como problemas: qual é o perfil do enfermeiro líder do cuidar em enfermagem? Quais são os estilos dominantes e subdominantes de liderança do enfermeiro no exercício de atividades de coordenação geral de serviços, chefia de unidades operacionais e supervisão de enfermagem, segundo sua autopercepção? Para responder a essas questões, formularam-se os seguintes objetivos gerais: delinear o perfil do enfermeiro líder, segundo suas características individuais e profissionais e identificar o estilo de liderança adotado pelos enfermeiros, segundo as dimensões do comportamento do líder, no seu cotidiano de trabalho, na instituição de saúde. Utilizou-se como marco referencial a teoria Grid gerencial de Blake e Mouton. A produção de dados foi realizada de junho a julho de 2007, em hospital universitário público, geral, de grande porte, situado no município do Rio de Janeiro. Escolheu-se o método descritivo quantitativo e transversal e a técnica de auto-relato, aplicando-se um questionário a 66 enfermeiros atuantes nas funções de liderança delimitadas nessa pesquisa. As variáveis do estudo do perfil referem-se às características individuais e profissionais do enfermeiro líder, enquanto as de liderança relacionam-se aos cinco estilos puros, nas concepções teóricas de dominante e de subdominante, delimitadas na investigação, desde as dimensões do comportamento de liderança, preconizadas pelos autores. A análise de dados deu-se por estatística descritiva simples. Delineando-se o perfil do enfermeiro líder, constatou-se a maioria do sexo feminino (87,88%), faixa etária entre 44 e 48 anos (25,76%), união estável (56,06%), com um filho (33,33%). A maioria dos enfermeiros tem dois vínculos públicos (89,39%) e tempo de formado de 21 a 25 anos (39,39%). Há predominância de preparo teórico para a liderança (80,30%), curso de pós-graduação lato sensu (36,36%) e stricto sensu (36,06%). Quanto aos estilos Grid, identificou-se que as dimensões do comportamento de liderança definiram estilos alternativos para lidar com situações complexas. O enfermeiro líder adota um estilo dominante, porém, quando não obtém êxito, recorre ao estilo subdominante. Os resultados apontam a predominância do estilo 5,5, seguida por 9,9, 1,9, 9,1 e 1,1, diferentemente do encontrado na revisão de literatura referente à liderança de enfermagem no período de 1990 a 2006. Conclui-se que a inclusão de variáveis do estudo, contemplando aspectos problematizados do cotidiano do trabalho em grupo, associados às dimensões da liderança, favoreceu uma percepção mais aproximada do estilo real do enfermeiro líder.
