The historical-cultural legacy, and the geomorphological characteristics of the territory of Rio de Janeiro, attribute to the state of Rio de Janeiro very privileged conditions for the manifestation of the complex tourist phenomenon. As a result, Rio de Janeiro is the second gateway for tourists to enter the country, with expressive indicators in the flow of tourists motivated by both leisure and business. However, there remains an unequivocal distance between the large receiving centres (capital and inducing destinations), and other forgotten territories that public sector policies have not been able to achieve. Given the multiple tourist potentialities that generally cover the entire state, whether natural, scenic, cultural, sometimes not even recognized by the native people of these places, the opportunity to extract a point of light from tourism (without any Salvationist tonic) that could mitigate patterns of inequality in the distribution of wealth, once it is effectively appropriate for the benefit of the communities that live there, is lost. Although the entanglement of this proposal is recognized, rural tourism emerges as one of the ways that can respond positively to this challenge, in the face of a map that reveals itself full of possibilities in the state, and that becomes enriched by the power of aggregation of other tourist segments in the countryside of Rio de Janeiro, a fertile field in a diversity of attractions. It is from this premise that the map of Rural Tourism in the state of Rio de Janeiro was designed, under the eyes of municipal tourism managers around such vocations, punctuated by other perceptions and complementary information. The objective is to serve as an initial shelter for the reflection on the reasons why rural tourism has not advanced in the state of Rio de Janeiro, perhaps putting arrows on the way so that bridges can be built and properly supported by public policies for tourist development
