This thesis analyzed the affective relationships between "inside" and "outside" female prisons in Brazil and Portugal. Through the construction of a feminist cartography, and thinking prison from its porosities and its productive character, we built a research field that involved both sides of the brazilian and portuguese prison walls. The notion of fold was used to understand the forces that produce prison and subjectivities, folding the inside on the outside and outside on the inside, therefore highlighting the coextensive character of both inside and outside of prison. To follow the processuality of the flows that connect people, things, spaces and times, we selected some objects that let us see the ways in which affective and family relationships are created, maintained, and reorganized in the face of prison. Thus, letters, telephones, videoconferencing systems, photographs, personal belongings, food, papers and documents were understood as materializations of these affections and as part of a network of humans and non-humans that operates connectivities and highlights the textures of affection and resistance that take part in the interactions that occur in the boundaries of prison. The geography of affections that is produced in prison’s folds has shown that, faced with the possibility of breaking or weakening affective and family ties as a result of being in prison or having a family member imprisoned, people on both sides of the walls undertake efforts to produce forms of presence and remodulate times and spaces, articulating inside, outside, prison, street, presences, absences, countries, families, loves, affections and relationships.
