Repercussões do cárcere para além dos muros: contexto familiar de mulheres presas

Brazil is a country that increasingly imprisons women, making it the fourth largest female prison population in the world. The effects of women's prison are not restricted to the imprisoned woman, but extends to her family, which is her first means of socialization. The families of women prisoners are affected by a socially imposed invisibility, but this does not nullify all the repercussions experienced by them and, above all, their existence. In order to analyze, identify and describe these repercussions, the present study has the following objectives: to analyze the perspective of the family members regarding the woman's imprisonment and its repercussions in the family context, to identify the perspectives and feelings of family members about the imprisonment of women and to describe the repercussions of women's imprisonment in the family context. The study had a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory approach, which used a semi-structured script with open and closed questions, interviewed 11 family members, among four men and seven women, who visited women in a prison unit in the State of Rio de Janeiro in the months of July to September 2022. Bardin's content analysis was carried out and from there two categories were formulated for the explanation of the findings and discussion. Two categories were formulated: 1) Perspectives and feelings of family members about the imprisonment of women; 2) Repercussions of women's imprisonment on the family. The research made it possible to describe favorable and unfavorable emotions, and the perception of stigmatizing treatments that mark the experiences of family members in the prison environment. In addition to identifying the roles that women played before imprisonment in the family's view and analyzing how these places were crossed after imprisonment, in family, social, financial and health dimensions. It allowed the family to identify some care actions that would alleviate the effects of family imprisonment.
