O gozo dos Mistérios: antropofagia e território no Mangue de Carnaval

The present work proposes to research the theatrical production of Mistérios Gozozos, performed in 1994 and 2015 by Grupo de Teat(r)o Oficina Uzyna Uzona. The play is based on a dramatic poem by Oswald de Andrade, O Santeiro do Mangue, written between 1935 and 1950. In this hybrid text, published posthumously, Andrade chooses the Mangue, a low- prostitution zone in Rio de Janeiro, to confront poverty , marginalization and the urban development project of the elites during the first half of the 20th century. In Mistérios Gozósos, the Oficina appropriates several theatrical genres to collectively create a Mangue that shelters the inequalities and contradictions of a large urban center in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. We approach the play as an autonomous creation that builds a relationship of dialogue with the literary text, creating a new work in the process. In this way, it is not the objective of the research to place one of the works in a superior position to the other, nor to check the fidelity of the theater in relation to the poem. In order to analyze the relationship between the written text and the performance, we raised questions that could shed light on how certain aspects are configured, such as: the change in the historical and social context, the process performed by theater in the vocalization and musicalization of written poetry, the change resulting from an individual creation, in the work written for a collective elaboration, in the theater, the configurations of the anthropophagous posture in each of the works, the political position that each of the works assumes before the theme represented and the way in which the theater presents a literary work to the public. Through this research we hope to contribute to the study of the relationship between literature and theater and to the study of the constitution of autonomy in Brazil’s cultural thought through anthropophagy, a posture of creation assumed by Andrade, in literature, and by Oficina, in theater
