This research investigates the consequences of the expansion of the Islamist networks in the European Union and the reasons for the development of muslim fundamentalism in the continent. These questions are answered from two biases: first, how different networks of people e ideologies are established in the region that relate the construction of branches of transnational islamist groups, and second, in the debate on the relationship between globalization, the nation-state crisis and multiculturalism. Like other political and religious ideologies, Islam expands beyond the borders benefited by globalization. Thus, the great Muslim fundamentalist groups, including jihadists, were able to build the necessary structures to establish various gender branches, vying for the support of the Muslim diaspora in Europe. Therefore, the research found that the penetration of islamic fundamentalism boosts populist groups of nationalist rhetoric, which are opposed to immigration and integration of the continent by the European Union. These political movements also support a xenophobic position, essentializing the common muslim as a security issue, not differentiating them from radicals, indicating that this is a threat to European identity. Besides this fact, globalization and the exhaustion of the European nation-state has made Europe a pole of attraction for Islamist networks. As the failure of multiculturalism, which as preservation policy of the identities of immigrants hampers their integration to the majority society, maintaining ties with their home cultures and creating isolated spaces able to offer a context compatible for the development of radicalization in the islamic diaspora.
