Resumo: What is and how is the importance and the function nowadays of reading and literature are important points for discussion in present, due to the fact that more and more individuals are exposed to texts and have the need to analyze them and understand them in a reflective and critically way. According to Paulo Freire since the individual is born he is reading the world, but teach reading is also one of the school functions, and the teachers should use many different tools to prepare their students to be reflective and critics readers. Contemporary literature is available to teachers, schools and students as a tool for teaching reading and literature in the classroom, once by it uses is possible a work that will make students more prepared for a better understanding of other texts, as well as their own reality. In order to see how this is possible, in a real situation, in this article is presented a study case of the application of a contemporary literature, the book Os sete, by André Vianco in a high school in São Paulo, so it wiil be possible the demonstration of the advantages of this type of exercise in the classroom.

O que é, qual a importância e qual a função no mundo contemporâneo da leitura e da literatura são pontos relevantes para a discussão nos dias atuais, devido ao fato que, cada vez mais o indiví­duo é exposto a textos e necessita analisá-los e compreendê-los de forma reflexiva e crí­tica. De acordo com Paulo Freire, desde que o indiví­duo nasce ele está lendo o mundo, porém, ensinar a ler é uma das funções da escola, que deve utilizar as mais diversas ferramentas para preparar os seus alunos como leitores reflexivos e crí­ticos. A literatura contemporânea está à disposição dos professores, da escola e dos alunos como uma ferramenta para o ensino da leitura e da própria literatura na sala de aula, uma vez que, a partir dela são possí­veis trabalhos de compreensão e análise que tornarão os alunos preparados, para o melhor entendimento de outros textos, bem como de sua própria realidade. Com o intuito de observar como isso pode ocorrer, de fato, em uma situação real, é apresentado no presente artigo, um estudo de caso da aplicação de uma obra contemporânea, Os Sete, de André Vianco, em um colégio de São Paulo, buscando a demonstração das vantagens deste tipo de exercí­cio na sala de aula.
