Resumo: This article seeks to analyze the drought as a building element of the Northeast region, a phenomenon highlighted in the Regionalist Literature of the 1930s, in which we  focus on Ceará writer Rachel de Queiroz. We used as sources for this work, the book O Quinze by Rachel de Queiroz, articles from local newspapers of Mossoró / RN, O Comércio de Mossoró and O Mossoroense, as well as articles from Ceará newspapers, such as A Lucta. At the end of the work we can perceive the drought phenomenon as an element capable of creating identity characteristics for the northeastern, while presenting itself as one of those responsible for emptying the region.

Utilizamos como fontes para a elaboração deste trabalho, o livro O Quinze de Rachel de Queiroz, matérias de jornais locais de Mossoró/RN, O Comércio de Mossoró e O Mossoroense, além de matérias de jornais cearenses, como por exemplo, A Lucta.
