Resumo: | This paper describes the stages of an interinstitutional project aimed at building a speech database of English as a second language (L2), which could be used for research in the field of L2 Phonetics and Phonology. The bank will have longitudinal and cross-sectional data, focusing on the production of vowels, consonants and syllabic patterns of English. We intend to recruit students enrolled in undergraduate programs that involve training professionals who need to develop a high level of English proficiency (Letras and Secretariado Executivo), as well as L2 learners in language centers. A better understanding of how these learners develop the L2 sound system can provide important information for L2 pronunciation pedagogy, as well as improve the understanding of how interphonology develops for each individual. Several studies have highlighted the fact that both the perception and the production of sounds and syllable patterns of L2 improve as L2 proficiency advances (ZIMMER, 2004; SILVEIRA, 2011). However, most of these studies have adopted a cross-sectional design, which generally implies a single session of data collection from learners across proficiency levels. Adopting both a longitudinal and a cross-sectional perspective, in a 'product' approach in line with a 'process' approach (LOWIE, 2017; LOWIE; VERSPOOR, 2019; YU; LOWIE, 2019), will allow for a better understanding of the development of the L2 system, showing that the acquisition of L2 phonology presents complex and non-linear behavior (BARBOZA, 2013; ALBUQUERQUE, 2019; LIMA JR.; ALVES, 2019). The importance of including a longitudinal perspective lies in the fact that, in the development of an L2 system, progress and regression coexist, since the learning of new structures can temporarily affect structures that were already present in the learner"™s system, due to the fractal nature of complex / dynamic systems (BECKNER et al., 2009; LARSEN-FREEMAN; CAMERON, 2008; LARSEN-FREEMAN, 2015; 2017). |

The importance of including a longitudinal perspective lies in the fact that, in the development of an L2 system, progress and regression coexist, since the learning of new structures can temporarily affect structures that were already present in the learner"™s system, due to the fractal nature of complex / dynamic systems (BECKNER et al., 2009; LARSEN-FREEMAN; CAMERON, 2008; LARSEN-FREEMAN, 2015; 2017).Este trabalho visa a descrever as etapas de um projeto interinstitucional voltado à construção de um banco de dados de fala de Inglês como segunda língua (L2), direcionado a pesquisas na área de Fonética e Fonologia de L2. Edições UERN2020-06-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/RCOL/article/view/2859COLINEARES; v. 7 n. 1 (2020): Revista Colineares; 81-1132357-8203reponame:Revista Colinearesinstname:Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN)instacron:UERNporhttps://periodicos.apps.uern.br/index.php/RCOL/article/view/2859/2532Copyright (c) 2020 Rosane Silveira , Ronaldo Lima Júnior , Ubiratã Kickhofel Alves , Clerton Luiz Felix Barbozahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSilveira , Rosane Lima Júnior , Ronaldo Alves , Ubiratã Kickhofel Barboza, Clerton Luiz Felix 2023-07-31T16:18:02Zoai:ojs2.periodicos.apps.uern.br:article/2859Revistahttp://periodicos.uern.br/index.php/colinearesPUBhttp://periodicos.uern.br/index.php/colineares/oai||rev.colineares@uern.br2357-82032357-8203opendoar:2024-05-17T13:37:38.406833Revista Colineares - Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN)false |
