The purpose of this article is to reflect on the approach that Marx took as part of of Spinoza's work, asking as a research problem: which aspect of the elaboration and the trajectory of this philosopher, Marx identified himself: with the excommunicated Jew or with the philosopher politician trying to survive an unenlightened State. This is, as we have investigated in other writings, to ask whether the appeal to Spinoza was just a way for Marx to reflect about the political and social misery of the reality of his time. Our hypothesis leans towards recognition of the relevance of this issue, which is a reformulation of one and the same question, posed in different ways. The fact is a reference that is reiterated both in Marx and in its permanent dialogue and formulation partner, Engels. Thus, and for this reason, the present investigation reflects, as a fundamental question, what, on the one hand, Spinoza's philosophy had the tell the founders of this field of thought and, on the other hand, in counterpart, what tradition founded by the two intellectual partners absorbed from the reflections put forward by the polisher of lenses. In terms of method, as can be deduced from the above, this is a research purely bibliographical.
