Matemática no ensino médio: dificuldades encontradas nos conteúdos das quatro operações básicas

This work had as objective to know the main difficulties that the students of the 2nd year of high school have regarding the basic operations of the curricular component Mathematics, which are taught at the beginning of the students' school education. The subjects who participated in the research were 98 students, located in both private and public schools in the states of Pernambuco and Paraíba. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire with three questions that presented the use of one or more mathematical operations. For ethical reasons, the subjects participating in the study were not identified. After tabulation of the data from the applied questionnaire, it was found that more than 50% of the participants did not correct the proposed questions and 57% did not answer questions that involved basic mathematical operations. We emphasize that future research will be necessary to verify the reasons for the difficulties presented.
