This study aims to analyze the argumentative organization in the literary discourse of the short story “A Dívida” by Fontes Ibiapina, based on Semiolinguistic Discourse Analysis. We seek to verify the specificities of the language act, its discursive circumstances, and the argumentative mode of discursive organization of the literary object analyzed. Our research is applied in nature, descriptive in terms of its objectives, with a qualitative approach, and documentary in terms of data collection procedures. The results demonstrate that the argumentative organization is based on logical relations, starting from chains of implicational causality, generalizations, and deductive reasoning, manifested through a staging that is based on evaluations based on the ethical domain and on values such as discipline and justice, as well as on knowledge in the field of criminology, possibly influenced by Fontes Ibiapina's dual career as a writer and a judge.
