This article intends to present the tropeiro tradition as a cultural heritage and as a possible tourist attraction, besides showing its importance for the region and proposing its preservation through the creation of a Tropeiro and Ferreiro Memorial in Diamantina - MG. The research seeks to understand the tropa in its original meaning; the origins of tropas in Minas Gerais; and the importance of this movement for Diamantina. The work proposes the creation of a memorial that will democratize the access to their history and memories, so that local residents, tourists and visitors can get to know the characteristics of the profession, and so that descendants of the tropeiro culture can recognize themselves in the space and objects on display. Thus making it possible to preserve the past for the sake of the present and the future, through identity awareness and access to memory and history. In conclusion, the research proposes to acknowledge and register tropeirismo as an immaterial cultural heritage asset of Diamantina and the state of Minas Gerais.
