The article demonstrates that punitivist discourse is raised by constant information of violent crime news, so that it supports itself in a fear discourse and points out to extreme solutions as hardest regimes of punishment and vigilantism. Punitivist discourse in three newspapers from Ceará (Brazil)O discurso punitivista em três jornais cearensesDiscurso punitivista; Opinião pública; Meios de comunicação.Punitivist discourse; public opinion; media. The paper analyzes the establishment of punitivist discourses in society and list some linguistic and discursive strategies by which these discourses get legitimacy in media sphere. It brings remarks on the notion of punitivism, based in interdisciplinary bibliographical research. Then, the article focuses on the impact of media in spreading out and amplification of these discourses on public opinion. The article demonstrates that punitivist discourse is raised by constant information of violent crime news, so that it supports itself in a fear discourse and points out to extreme solutions as hardest regimes of punishment and vigilantism. The article concludes that punitivist discourse is also supported by auxiliary discourses that aim to disseminate a positive image of security agents, in order to prevent critical on eventual abuses. Nepan Editora2023-07-31info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufac.br/index.php/mui/article/view/667010.29327/210932.11.1-12 Muiraquitã: Revista de Letras e Humanidades; v. 11 n. 1 (2023): Muiraquitã: Revista de Letras e Humanidades2525-59241807-185610.29327/210932.11.1reponame:Muiraquitã (Online)instname:Universidade Federal do Acre (UFAC)instacron:UFACporhttps://periodicos.ufac.br/index.php/mui/article/view/6670/4224Santos, Francisco Ednardo Pinho dosinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-08-04T00:33:47Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/6670Revistahttps://periodicos.ufac.br/revista/index.php/mui/indexPUBhttps://periodicos.ufac.br/revista/index.php/mui/oaimuiraquita.ppgli@ufac.br2525-59241807-1856opendoar:2023-08-04T00:33:47Muiraquitã (Online) - Universidade Federal do Acre (UFAC)false |
