Resumo: | The article aims to discuss the cartographic representations of independence in the Americas presented in historical atlas and textbooks. Based on Benedict Anderson’s concept of “imagined communities”, we intend to analyze the ongoing use of maps as a territorial illustration of that historical process, taking as real the projection of power and border control of the new independent nation-states, silencing huge territories on the continent controlled by different indigenous peoples. In this way, the cartographic discourse conveyed by the maps, ends up reinforcing a teleological view of the history of the independences in the Americas, assuming winning projects as synonymous of political homogeneity. |

Nepan Editora2022-12-12info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufac.br/index.php/mui/article/view/633610.29327/210932.10.2-4Muiraquitã: Revista de Letras e Humanidades; v. 10 n. 2 (2022): Dossiê "EmDependênciasSeculares"2525-59241807-185610.29327/266889.10.2reponame:Muiraquitã (Online)instname:Universidade Federal do Acre (UFAC)instacron:UFACporhttps://periodicos.ufac.br/index.php/mui/article/view/6336/3928Junior, Alexandre Guilherme da Cruz Alvesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2022-12-17T16:21:53Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/6336Revistahttps://periodicos.ufac.br/revista/index.php/mui/indexPUBhttps://periodicos.ufac.br/revista/index.php/mui/oaimuiraquita.ppgli@ufac.br2525-59241807-1856opendoar:2022-12-17T16:21:53Muiraquitã (Online) - Universidade Federal do Acre (UFAC)false |
