The present work seeks to make a study, through bibliographic analysis, about the strike movements that took place in ABC Paulista in the late 1970s, which marked the resurgence of the union struggle in the country after years of repression against unionism during the military dictatorial regime. This discussion goes through a contextualization of the deterioration in the living and working conditions of the individuals who led the strikes, ABC auto industry workers, o the detriment of increases in the profits of companies in this sector, during the years of the “economic miracle”, guaranteed by the wage policy in force at that time. The analysis also includes a study of the context of repression of the union movement led by the dictatorship since its beginning in 1964, and the changes that took place within the São Bernardo Metalworkers Union over the 1970s, with the emergence of new leaders, that led workers to no longer accept that situation and start the ABC Strikes in 1978, a cycle of stoppages that lasted until 1980, but that created political forces that have influence in our country until today.
