The mining environmental zoning is a management tool widely applied in master plans in order to analyze aspects of the physical environment that can corroborate the economic expansion and rise of states and municipalities, respecting the environment and its limitations. In this sense, this work presents the elaboration of a mining zoning of the Metropolitan Region of Agreste (RMA) of Alagoas, specifically in areas with potential for the extraction of aggregate materials applied in road paving and in civil construction, in order to subsidize the elaboration of future documents for the state's mineral planning and zoning. The applied mapping method is based on the use of geoprocessing techniques in a GIS environment, to correlate geodiversity data with geospatial data, as originally proposed by Zuquette and Gandolfi (2004). From the zoned areas through documents produced based on geospatial and geodiversity data, aerophotogrammetric surveys were carried out, with the purpose of promoting a recognition and validation of the topographic aspects of the mapped regions. Cartographic documents revealed that RMA has a potential for substantial mineral exploration of sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, such as gneiss, quartzite and limestone. According to the literature, a document was also built to indicate the application of these materials in road paving, which are for road design and embankment. However, for civil construction materials were not determined to be explored in this region, since the attributes considered did not meet the necessary characteristics of the physical environment. Thus, the association of geotechnical cartography with the techniques of geoprocessing and photointerpretation, even with restrictions on the wealth of data available for production, allowed the elaboration of documents that provide a basis for environmental and mining zoning applied to the territorial ordering of the State, since Alagoas still lacks such studies in its master plan. It is worth mentioning that these documents are important instruments in decision making in terms of territorial planning, management of land use and occupation in a region, and above all, they enable the sustainable development of the surrounding municipalities.
