Resumo: Considering that the phenomenon of criminality can lead to intangible problems for the economy and society, this work sought to investigate the impact that socioeconomic variables exert on the indicator of crime in Brazil for the 1991, 2000 and 2010 censuses from the perspective of the crime economy. Thus, the use of the correlation matrix and for the model choice between pooled, fixed effects or random effects were performed the tests of Chow, Breush-Pagan and Hausman. Data from the 27 states of Brazil were collected. Through the estimation of the panel data economy with fixed effects, the results indicate that there is a significant relationship between the illiteracy rate, the life expectancy and the gini index and the homicide rate, these socioeconomic variables directly affect crime in the Brazilian states.

Dessa forma, foi utilizada a matriz de correlação e para a escolha modelo entre Pooled, Efeitos Fixos ou Efeitos Aleatórios foram realizados os testes de Chow, Breush-Pagan e Hausman. Foram coletados dados dos 27 estados do Brasil.
