ABANDONMENT, POVERTY AND DENIAL OF HUMAN RIGHTS: THE ADAUTO BOTELHO PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL IN GOIÂNIA (1964-1984)

Resumo: The Adauto Botelho Psychiatric Hospital in Goiânia - Goiás was the object of occasional scientific-historiographical undertakings among which Paula (2011), Rego Santos (2020), Barreto (2018) stand out. All of them recognize that the limits of their own clippings were imposed by the difficulties of access to the own and internal archives of this extinct institution. In the face of all this research, what can be seen is still a set of traces that can be explored. Following the traces left behind, I analyze how this institution is represented during the period of the Military Business Dictatorship. The sources are from periodicals from the period between 1964-1984, which show how this institution became a practically abandoned place whose function was basically the internment of the poor, a position contrary to the provisions of human rights.

Todos ellos reconocen que los límites de sus propios recortes fueron impuestos por las dificultades para acceder a los archivos propios e internos de esta desaparecida institución. Frente a toda esta investigación, lo que se ve es todavía un conjunto de huellas que se pueden explorar. Siguiendo las huellas dejadas, esta institución se representa en el período de la Dictadura Militar Empresarial. Las fuentes son de periódicos del período 1964-1984, que muestran cómo esta institución se convirtió en un lugar prácticamente abandonado y cuya función era básicamente el internamiento de los pobres, posición contraria a las disposiciones de los derechos humanos.O Hospital Psiquiátrico Adauto Botelho de Goiânia – Goiás foi objeto de empreendimentos científico-historiográficos pontuais entre os quais se destacam a Paula (2011), Rego Santos (2020), Barreto (2018). Todos eles reconhecem que os limites de seus próprios recortes foram impostos pelas dificuldades de acesso aos arquivos próprios e internos dessa instituição extinta. Diante de todas essas pesquisas, o que se pode ver é ainda um conjunto de rastros que podem ser explorados. Seguindo dos rastros deixados analiso essa instituição é representada no período da Ditadura Empresarial Militar.
