This work aimed to analyze the morphometric and geomorphological characteristics and the variation of the soil cover classes, in the lower course of the Mamanguape River - Paraíba. The morphometric characterization was carried out from the geometric attributes, the relief characteristics and the drainage network of the hydrographic region. For the geomorphological mapping, the geological, pedological and relief units were listed. As for the soil cover, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used, through images from the Landsat 5-TM and Landsat 8-OLI satellites, for the years 1985 and 2018. Basin has a slightly elongated shape, low altitudes, predominantly flat and gently undulating relief, aspects that contribute to the occurrence of floodplains. It is a mostly sedimentary system, with a predominance of flats, plains and broad and smooth hills, made up of clayey and sandy-clay soils, with low fertility. The variation in soil cover indicates the expansion of shrimp farming and sugarcane, giving rise to environmental conflicts. It was also observed the improvement of photosynthetic activity in the delimited area as being of relevant ecological interest, a factor of great relevance due to the presence of the mangrove, target of constant anthropic pressures.
