Scientific and Technological Prospection of the Genus Bauhinia L. (Fabaceae)

Resumo: | Bauhinia L. is a genus potentially beneficial to health due to its medicinal properties. In this work, a scientific and technological prospection of Bauhinia was carried out, WIPO, EPO and INPI databases were used for patents, and Scopus, Scielo and Web of Science for indexed articles. The descriptors used were: “Bauhinia”, “Bauhinia AND cancer”, “Bauhinia AND therapy” and “Bauhinia AND diabetes”. From 1.746 articles recorded on Bauhinia, 148 were related to research on diabetes, 95 on cancer and 33 on therapy in general (Scopus). Bauhinia presented a considerable number of patents deposited (WIPO: 694, EPO: 739). It was identified that China has the largest number of patents. B. forficata (n=118), B. bauhinioides (n=29) and B. ungulata (n=20) species stood out in scientific and technological production in the field of herbal medicine. Due to its relevance as source of herbal medicines and species diversity, it is necessary to carry out more research on the genus Bauhinia in Brazil. |

Neste trabalho, realizou-se uma prospecção científica e tecnológica sobre Bauhinia e foram utilizadas as bases de dados WIPO, EPO e INPI para patentes, e Scopus, Scielo e Web of Science para artigos indexados. Os descritores utilizados foram: “Bauhinia”, “Bauhinia AND câncer”, “Bauhinia AND terapêutica” e “Bauhinia AND diabetes”. Dos 1.746 artigos registrados sobre Bauhinia, 148 foram relacionados a pesquisas com diabetes, 95 sobre câncer e 33 se referem à terapêutica em geral (Scopus). Bauhinia apresentou um número considerável de patentes depositadas (WIPO: 694, EPO: 739). Identificou-se que a China possui a maior quantidade de patentes. As espécies B. forficata (n=118), B. bauhinioides (n=29) e B. ungulata (n=20) se destacaram na produção científica e tecnológica na área da fitoterapia.
