Resumo: The palm oil plant generates several by products, both in the artisanal and gastronomic segments, such as olive oil that is used to make vatapá, acarajé, abará, which are products marketed by the Bahian women who dress in character and have tourism representation. Its production is located in the region called Costa do Dendê, in Bahia and in the municipality of Valença, palm oil has a handcrafted, manufacturing and little mechanized production process, which generates occupation for several people. This article aims to demonstrate the potential of the feasibility of applying for the registration of a GI for the palm oil of Valencia, which has some requirements such as notoriety, know-how, a representative body and product quality. The methodology used was bibliographic research. It is concluded that palm oil has the potential to become a GI.

It is concluded that palm oil has the potential to become a GI.A planta do dendê gera diversos subprodutos, tanto no segmento artesanal quanto na gastronomia, como o azeite, utilizado para fazer vatapá, acarajé, abará, que são produtos comercializados pelas baianas que se vestem a caráter e possuem representatividade em termos turísticos. A sua produção está inserida na região denominada Costa do Dendê, na Bahia, e, no município de Valença, o azeite de dendê possui um processo produtivo artesanal, manufatureiro e pouco mecanizado, o que gera ocupação para diversas pessoas. O presente artigo tem como objetivo demonstrar o potencial da viabilidade da solicitação do registro de uma IG para o azeite de dendê de Valença, que possui alguns requisitos, como: a notoriedade, o saber-fazer, um órgão representativo e a qualidade do produto. A metodologia utilizada foi a pesquisa bibliográfica.
