Resumo: Croton sonderianus is one of the most numerous plants of the Croton genus, being used in folk medicine to treat inflammation, hypertension, ulcers and diarrhea. The objective was to carry out scientific and technological research in international databases on C. sonderianus. In ScienceDirect and Web of Science, 12 and 46 articles were indexed, respectively, while, for patents, 1.658 (Croton) and two (C. sonderianus) were found in the WIPO database. Interest in the pharmacological potential of C. sonderianus has grown in the last ten years. China is the main patent depository country for this genre. Scientific and technological data suggest that C. sonderianus can be used for medicinal purposes such as antimicrobial, antinociceptive, antispasmodic and insecticidal. It is necessary to expand phytochemical and pharmacological knowledge of C. sonderianus so that the data obtained can contribute to the development of new medicines, in addition to valuing the existing biodiversity in Brazil.

No ScienceDirect e no Web of Science, foram indexados 12 e 46 artigos, respectivamente, enquanto, para patentes, foram encontrados 1.658 (Croton) e dois (C. sonderianus) na base WIPO. O interesse pelo potencial farmacológico de C. sonderianus cresceu nos últimos dez anos. A China é o principal país depositário de patentes para o gênero. Os dados científicos e tecnológicos sugerem que C. sonderianus pode ser utilizada para fins medicinais como antimicrobiana, antinociceptiva, antiespasmódica e inseticida.
