This work has as main objectives the search of the previous one on the production of activated carbon derived from the biomass and its application in adsorption processes, besides presenting an overview of the area of ​​study in this area. To do the study of technological prospecting, it was associated with biomass *, adsorpt * and activ * carbon *, obtaining 181 patents and eliminating as patents that were not the focus of this work, we obtained 177 records. China was the country that most stood out in this area, with the largest number of patent documents deposited in the group studied, having this country as insurance with due attention to their knowledge. From the analysis of results found in the prospection, it was verified that the production of activated carbon derived from biomass and its application in adsorption processes is still little explored consisting of opportunities for further studies.
