Combú Island Geographic Indication for Chocolate Product: the first case of a single individual producer in Brazil

Resumo: The article aims to promote a reflection on the complex and unprecedented dynamics in Brazil, of the request for a geographical indication for a single individual producer, related to the manufacture of chocolate produced on Ilha do Combú, to be requested by the figure nationally known as “Dona Nena”, riverside, daughter and resident of the environmental protection area, located in the capital of the State of Pará. Due to the exceptional characteristics of the subject, an exploratory methodology, descriptive form and qualitative approach was used, maintaining direct access with the registering body, copies of registered processes, books, websites, periodicals, academic works, specific legislation and internal normative acts of the INPI itself. The results are manifested by the sharing of fame and notoriety concentrated in the only chocolate producer, with the entire community of the island of Combú, the recognition of the first GI of chocolate in the Amazon and the technical and scientific collaboration for the submission of the innovative request in Brazil for this bioproduct of the forest.

Pelas características excepcionais do tema, foi utilizada a metodologia do tipo exploratória, forma descritiva e abordagem qualitativa, mantendo acesso direto com o órgão registrador, as cópias de processos registrados, os livros, os sites, os periódicos, os trabalhos acadêmicos, a legislação específica e os atos normativos internos do próprio INPI.
